A Conversation with Saïda Fakher: Q&A
Q: What motivated you to shift your focus from a thriving acting career to launching a platform for aspiring actors in Africa, while continuing your work as an actress? Saïda Fakher: My journey is my biggest inspiration. Throughout my career, I’ve faced challenges that underscored the importance of mentorship and support. While I was fortunate to have mentors who believed in me, I also witnessed the barriers faced by aspiring actors, particularly those from diverse backgrounds like Africa. Limited access to resources, training opportunities, and culturally relevant mentorship were major hurdles. The Veritas Acting Academy was born out of my desire to provide a platform that addresses these challenges, offering not just acting courses but also mentorship, mental health workshops, and industry insights.
Q: Can you share a personal experience that motivated you to create these acting courses? Saïda Fakher: One personal experience that deeply motivated me to create these acting courses happened early in my career. I remember preparing for a major audition, feeling completely overwhelmed and unsure of myself. I had no idea how to properly present the character, manage my emotions, or even navigate the audition process itself. Despite feeling utterly lost and unprepared, I somehow booked the role.
However, just as I was celebrating this breakthrough, I realized that I couldn’t actually take the job. My school visa in the U.S. was set to expire before the filming began, and I had to decline the offer. It was a bittersweet moment—on one hand, I had proven to myself that I had the talent, but on the other, I was held back by circumstances beyond my control.
This experience taught me the importance of preparation, support, and having the right resources to navigate the industry. It’s what inspired me to create these acting courses. I wanted to provide aspiring actors with the tools and guidance I wished I had at that critical moment. My goal is to empower them to succeed with confidence and resilience, no matter what challenges they face.
