Jacob T. Gaffney, founder of Gaffney-Thompson Capital based in Cincinnati, Ohio has announced that Bishop Sycamore’s former head coach LeRoy Johnson will have full ownership of the company starting on January 1st of 2023.
Johnson, in 2021, led a high school football team to a televised matchup against Florida’s IMG Academy on ESPN. It was brought to light that the team and the school were not “real”. This event sparked national attention.
According to a statement made by Ohio Governor Mike DeWine, the school was not registered with the Ohio High School Athletic Association. He stated: “I share the concerns of many Ohioans over the recent inquiries and revelations regarding Bishop Sycamore. While the football game this past weekend highlighted questions about the players’ health and safety, it also revealed problems with the way the institution is run. According to Ohio law, Bishop Sycamore and all schools must adhere to a set of minimal requirements. It is unclear if Bishop Sycamore satisfies these requirements. To make sure Bishop Sycamore is following Ohio law and giving Ohio students the educational opportunity they deserve, I have requested that the Ohio Department of Education launch an investigation.” (Date from governor.ohio.gov)
After Bishop Sycamore lost to IMG Academy 58-0, and it was revealed that the school was illegitimate, former colleagues of Gaffney’s began to wonder if he was investing in the right person. Since then, he has taken on a new business venture along with Kentucky native Conlan Thompson. The 7130 Entertainment music company will be solely operated and owned by LeRoy Johnson.
